IM new to having a diesel truck,, ive had my 94 just for a few weeks and wondering how the start light works in the winter compared to the summer.. Does the light stay on longer as the weather gets colder?? Mine now which is summer time and hot stay on for a second and then you start motor,. Does it stay on for several seconds in the winter??? THanks
The Wait to start light comes on for about 10 seconds....no matter what the outside temps are. The Glow plugs will be energized for up to 2 minutes even after the WTS light goes out. So,...... the colder it gets the longer you should wait to start the truck regardless of the WTS light.
And as long as your glow plug relay is working correctly you will see a slight jump on your volt-meter on the dash. When the gp's turn off it will go a hair higher. In the warm months mine comes on for about 1 minute.
Chart on the left is glow plug on time. Once engine oil temp is above 131* then wait to start light still comes on for about 1 second on restart but glow plugs don't cycle.
so mine coming on for one second is that not good before it goes out? What would i look for to check if it continues to just stay on for one second ? is that normal for this time of year when its warm out? how long is everyones else light staying on ?
