Just bought a 94 f250 with the 7.3 turbo international engine, its auto and 2wd. I have already gotten down to the rockers on the passerger side with help from a friend of mine. We are currently removing the fuel lines but having alot of trouble getting the turbo off. Does any one know of an easier way to get it off or to get down to the head gasket? the ac is still in the truck and we were hoping that it doesnt come to removing it. any help would be great thank you for your help.
A/c won't have to come off, will be tight sometimes. Turbo gets bolts hot, use lots of penatrating lube give it time to soak and gentle pressure. You still may break some bolts if its never been apart before. Good luck.
For starters is this a power stroke 7.3 or an IDI 7.3 factory turbo? 94 was the change over from IDI to powerstroke and both engines were in this year truck. Does it have a injection pump on the front top of the engine with steel fuel lines running out to each injector?
OK sorry I had to ask. As far as getting the turbo off poocher is right on with that one. Also on the fuel lines it is easier to remove the whole IP with the lines left on it and disconnect them from the injectors.
If you mean to remove the ip here goes.
1. disconnect all the lines from the injectors. Do not try to bend the lines away from the injectors as they may kink.
2.remove the cover on the front of the ip adapter housing. This is the half round looking thing where oil fill is.
3. remove the 3 star head bolts holding the ip to the drive gear (thses are unde this cover). I believe they are like 8mm.
4.now remove the 3 nuts that hold the ip to the adapter housing. They are at 120* from each other. They are a 9/16 nut.
5. unplug the electical connections from the ip noting wich one goes where.
6. disconnect the throttle linkage from the ip and remove the throttle bracket from the front of the intake throat.(this will make step 8 easier)
7. Diconnect the fuel line from the fuel filter header and the retun line from the top of the ip that runs to the back of the engine.
8. Now carefully manuver the ip and the lines back and up from the engine.
perfect that will make things a lot easier. were used to n/a gas engines so this isnt what i would call a soft entry into diesel engine repair. but hey if ur gonna get wet jump in right?
Well update time we have the ip loose. However the lines run to below the Turbo. So what is the easiest way to get the exhaust inlet line loose from the Turbo. We've found bolts that mount it directly to the Turbo but I see no way to get to the bolts without tearing apart the aluminum heat shield. Is there another way or are those the bolts we need to Break.
