Before dropping some cash I thought it a good idea to give a quick summary of what I want to do before I spent to much money on parts that won't work well together.
I am looking into rebuilding a 460 block I have laying around in the back yard in one of the many sheds with far to many car parts and I wanted to build myself a stroker 460, sounds like fun and plus their all the rage two birds one stone right.
So I thought to get a stroker kit, heads, cam, headers, intake, carb(s),timing, and a new ignition here is my idea. No need to mention machine work as that I have a good shop for already.
$2128.00 FORD 460 TO 533 LONG ROD STROKER KIT
for the stroker kit I have done some snooping around and read some articles in a magazine where these people have made a kit that turned out beautifully.
Ok so I found a kit I am happy with from weiland intake and holley carbs. Now I have an idea I want to run past yall. How do you think the great big nestalgic blower would look poking up from the hood of a lifted dent? $901.70 Summit Racing 03-0188 - Summit Racing® Intake Manifold, Carburetor, and Air Cleaner Pro Packs - Overview - SummitRacing.com
To go along with that i had an idea ablout using he electro magnetic hood latches and door latches to create like a cabinet door hinge type thing where the hood opens as two flaps instead of a giant bay door and would open so each door stood over the one of the front quarter panels. THen I would use the cab struts used to hold semi-truck cabs forward to hold the doors open any idea on how this might look or if you have ever seen it?
Alright so I know that there is a lot there but please tell me what I got wrong and I will go out hunting again so far only abolut $5200 plus the minor amount of decking and boring for the block just remember this is for major stuff not including gaskets and the like
Gots them so after a long wait much cursing and breaking of digi cameras I finally got a couple pictures.
Got a couple more somewhere but I lost them on the infinite space of the internet.
and a full frontal nudity shot parents beware
Suppoedly it has four inches of lift and now is running 37x12.5x16.5 Goodyear Military tires. I haven't done nothing too it as of now the truck is in texas I am in Germany soo it's a little hard at the moment but as soon as I get home I am going to rub all over her and make my wife jealous. And I now have the problems that inflict many poor car builders. The internet found me some brand new Boss 429/460 Heads Jon Kaase Racing Engines - Kaase Boss Nine - Semi-Hemisperical Big Block Ford Cylinder Heads
Only probelm is they are $4150 so theres almost the cost of my entire engine build. YAY for me though
Man imo that is a lot of cash for something you say "Because I plan on use mainly off road for the truck and some street". Any 460 is going to move that truck fine for off roading. I know that some parts of the country wheeling is different because of the land, but around here you wheel around 5 to 15 mph or you are just going to tear off the front axle. I use my 77 F250 4x4 for towing my small trailer and my wife wants to bring half the house, it has a 69 460 in it and more power that I could ever need, but it is just to big to do many of the trails around here. I have a CJ to wheel in.
Yea I know it is way overdone but he have like prerunner stuff out here as well as the rocks so I will want to go fast too and money while I know this seems snobish but the money is unimportant to me I will spend it if I have to.
Heck, if you are just going to run dirt drop it in the green and white one on you pic. Do your dirt and have one heck of a street sleeper. It amazes me to be running down the highway in my old (some view as a pos) 77 4x4, towing my tent trailer at the speed limit and all the cars plow past me and give you that look like get it off the road, then come up to a pass and I got to laugh when I blow by them going up hill pulling a trailer. Pulled into a rest stop and a guy came over and asked me what in the heck do you have in that thing. Told him it was just stock.
