Guys 2000 f-250 sd v-10...been feeling kind of sluggish for a while...had a friend who is asa certified mech swap out my plugs awhile back while i was out of town, truck seemed to lack power......that was about a year ago. i decided to do a tune up and swap out the cop's when i changed the plugs, i checked the gap and they were at 45 thou. the autolites i went in with were gapped at 54 thou. as per the data sheet under hood by me.... would the gap being set to narrow affect performance/mileage? tune up went well except for the boot breaking off on #5 plug....caught hell trying to get that straightdid a drive cycle after tune up. hope the mileage will increase soon. thanks
Art, thanks...was more worried about gas mileage. I have installed a new maf and swapped out the f. filter. guess i'll go back to fuel pressure(remember i swapped the regulator out about 6 months ago). had the y-pipe installed along with the 5 star from mike (87 perf) mileage dropped from 13's to 9-10's. Couple of months back i had it scanned at dealership (returned truck to stock tune prior to taking it in) they updated the computer program.found one bad cop, i swapped it out and am in process of getting tune info back to mike so he can tweak my tuner before i re-install it. just curious....after i installed the tune originally , but before y-pipe i was approaching 13's mpg afterwards it dropped...but also bad cop...think i may put original pipe back on, but damn thats a lot of hassle. also have a fm 70 muffler. thanks...sorry so wordy....
Not bad just not optimal.
On older motors when you are experiencing a skip or miss-fire and are not sure if it fuel or ignition related one of the tests is to close up the gap, if miss goes away it ignition. Reason is it take less energy to spark across the smaller gap.
Smaller gap can mean less efficient burn as the area around the gap get ionized by the build up of energy before the spark jumps. but in reality it such a small amount you'll likely not notice any difference.
