Mis diagnosed clutch problem
When starting off in 1st, it hitches like it's skipping a tooth and it makes a fairly loud noise.
When starting off in 2nd, it doesn't do this at all.
I'm going to get another opinion from a more experienced person. In the mean time, how hard is a transmission rebuild or a repair of 1st gear?
Would a salvage transmission be a better idea? I'm completely in the dark here.
The transmission has 197K on it. It's an M5OD.

Could you give anymore detail as to what it is doing and what it sounds like. There really isn't a whole lot in the trans that would cause the symptoms your describing.
It almost sound like it may be something in a u-joint or rear end, or a t-case if its 4x4

It doesn't do it when starting off in 2nd gear and doesn't do it at all through any of the other gears.
I figured it was the clutch initially as the clutch pedal has fallen part way to the floor.
The clutch master cylinder is full of fluid and the clutch engages fully and it shifts smooth with no grinding.
