Battery

Is it true leaving a car battery on a concrete floor will ruin it?

Battery

Not anymore... In the old days, with the messy batteries that puked electrolyte out all the time, there was a film of electrolyte all over the battery. Leaving a battery on a concrete floor or any other place where it could remain damp would keep the electrolyte moist enough to short the battery out. This slow leakage would drain a battery flat which can destroy an automotive battery. Hence the warning by old mechanics; "don't put a battery on a concrete floor". The new maintenance free batteries generaly do not leak enough electrolyte to cause this problem. But if in doubt, clean the battery before storage or put it on a block of wood :-)
