Hello! Wrong Fuel!

Here is a word of advice to everyone filling up there car at the pump station. Always make sure you are putting the correct fuel in your car. Do a snif check or clear sample bottle check, because even though you selected the correct fuel type, the pump may be pumping something else into your tank. That happened to me in Minnesota just recently. It cost me $525 to repair what they said "one of the cheapest repair jobs they have ever done." It can cost anywhere from $500 to $4000 depending on how bad the damage is. Yeah, that means I got lucky with that one. If decide to use the snif check, be advised that the fumes are dangerous snif very little, I always snif at the beginning of fill-up so I can stop it before it becomes a bad situation. A little bit of the wrong fuel type may cause your vehicle to start smoking, but it will burn it off and you'll be alright. Its when you get alot of it in there, your car can't run on it and you'll be left stranded. Gasoline smells very distinct and strong, diesel smells unique and not near as strong. If you use the clear sample bottle check it will be easier to nail the gas company to wall with because you have immediate proof and they usually have the pumps under 24 hr surveillance cameras. Diesel looks transparent yellow and leaves an oily residue where as gas is clear and evaporates quickly drying out what it touches. Don't let it happen to you.

Get the gas station to pay your repair BILL, it was there fault it happened in the first place, they are insured, no need to pay for someone elses, problems.

I'm in the process of that right now, but it gets hard when they don't own up to it and you have to get the Department of Trabsportation involved. I'm hoping they get their evidience and nail them to the wall.

I don't seem to have any problems. If it's red I should be good to go right? Lol.

I think most guys on here avoid the smaller stations that have the multi-fuel pumps. It's not worth the hassel.

Diesel can have several different tints to it. I've seen it from green/clear to yellow for the road fuel.

I'm going to have to put my nose to the test, I've never thought about it before.

I had it happen to our skidloader a couple years ago in town here at the station I always use. They filled the diesel tank with gas, didn't notice when filling the jug, but noticed when filling the loader from the jug. Had the loader running when filling it too. Caught it right away, shut it down, did no damage. Drained everything, new filters, and lucked out, good to go. Definitely wrote it on paper and dated it so I knew if something went wrong shortly down the road.

I always use diesel only pumps.

But, I also always drain out the first little bit in the nozzle. Don't want any water.
