HELP!!! My heater core is bad!!
It's a pain, but not impossible to do it yourself. Most of the work appears to be getting all the "stuff" removed so that you can access the core box. Well, then you have to cut loose all that nasty goo they slop around to seal the box. 
I have no idea what someone would charge to change the core. Best bet is to call a few shops (not dealerships) and ask for a quote.
