starting issues !!

ok, im sitting here at home, and my truck is sitting in the grocery store parking lot.....she wont start

i checked voltage at battery...12.7...across solenoid...12.7.....
jumped with solenoid....i get the click from the solenoid, and from the starter, but no engage.....sometimes i can hear the starter turn but not engage...most of the time, its just a click and nothing...

i checked the wires at starter...they seem tight and clean enough.....

any ideas ??????????????????????????

its a friday night and i cant even get a tow company to answer the phone around here.....i really would rather not leave the truck all alone at the store, but until i can contact a tow company i have little choice in the matter

lol....AAA will be getting a call from me monday!

Could be a starter, could also be a bad ground.

i checked all the connections i could get my hands on....they all SEEM to be tight and clean, could it be corrosion up in the wire itself......but that wouldnt stop it completely would it in one shot......that would cause like a weak battery condition, slow weak start right ??

Bad grounds or wires can rear their ugly in a heartbeat. I always start with the easy stuff first. Without being there to witness first hand it is difficult to pin it down 100%.

I have had more than my fair share of bad connections to batteries, cables and corroded grounds on the engine and/or frame over the last several decades. More so than a dead starter. Also add in bad batteries. The last three have worked just fine, then next time I hit the key...nothing. Deader than a doornail.

It sounds dumb, but take a hammer and hit the starter acouple of times. This can knock the 'dust' off of the mags; if it is the starter- then maybe, there ya go!

X2

your symptoms sound exactly like what a friend of mine had on his jeep a few months back. We just smacked the starter with a hammer and it started right up. The started ended up going out a few weeks later, so it might not be a bad idea to just replace your starter.

there is a small wire on the solenoid on the starter who's connection corrodes over time. this will leave you stranded.
the "solenoid" on the fender you are jumping is actually a starter relay. the real solenoid is on the starter.

and what is the sense of having AAA if they don't send out a tow truck on the weekend??
