Do it yourself bedliner stuff

Anyone have any direct experience with this stuff? I'm not interested in it as a bedliner specifically...I actually want to use it on the side of the truck bed along the cap to cover up some holes from some cargo tiedowns that the PO had drilled into the side of the bed.

I've used it and its pretty good stuff. Prep is key! for what you want to use it for it is perfect(cheap and looks good) I use it to coat alot of things around the house and small projects I dont want to paint every year. I built a motorcycle tie down setup with some jack stands and some 2" square tubing and coated all of it with the herculiner and it held up great!

Herculiner needs a rough surface to grip, so put on a thick layer of primer and rough it up with 60 grit sandpaper before you apply the liner. Make sure to mix it well with a paddle on an electric drill to get the rubber chunks in suspension.

Herculiner has chunks of rubber in it, and is an excellent non-skid surface. It is also very rough, and will give you "road rash" if you drag your skin over it. Also pretty hard on soft materials, like cardboard boxes if you drag them across it.

It chalks pretty quickly. You might look into the UV-resistant coating they offer.

I used it on a service body that I used heavily. I didn't rough up the primer, so the Herculiner would scrape off down to the prime when I dragged 2,000 lb. steel parts across it! If I had kept the truck, I would have rolled another coat on the floor every year, along with touching up the other scrapes.

I had a local guy spray my new service body with Vortex liner. We'll see how it holds up. It seems like a cross between Rhino and Duraliner, but much more economical. He came to my shop with portable equipment.

I used hammerite, not bad, dries hard and you can pick from several colors.

I used the hurculiner, actually had access to a gun for it, and put it on. It worked pretty well, but I would say make sure you prep well, and also dont be afraid to put it on thick. I think I put mine on a little thin because it scrapes off pretty easy. Spent about 50 one one can to do it. If i had it to do over again I would have spent some more and used 2 or maybe three of the big cans of it.
