speedo and weight?

speedo and weight?

i have a 1988 f-250 and the speedo doesnt work what should i look for first?also does any one know the approx empty weight, it is a ext cab and 4x4?

speedo gear is in the tcase on your truck I think, might wanna take a look at that.

Your looking at probly at least 3 tons......probly somewhere btwn 6000 and 7000 lbs.

It is a gear driven speedo. The end of the cable will go into the transfercase at the rear. Pull it and check the gear for wear. While it is out and if the gear checks out fine, put a drill on it and spin it. You will see the speedo move If the cable and the speedo is good. If all the cable/gear and speedo check out it is most likely in the t-case. That is something I have no experience with sorry. A far as the wieght of the rig some one else will be on soon that should know.

I think both of yall know lots of stuff! Whoever explains how to get to the gear in the transfer case more than one of us needs to know that!!

Rick- You talking about the one at the end of the cable? Or the one on the output shaft?

My truck (4x4 std cab longbed) weighs about 5800 pounds. I'd guess yours is about 6000 to 6100.

What TC ??

BW1345 can be done in the truck from what I hear, I'll know in a few days I'm about to try.

Where the speedo hooks in to the back of the transfer case,If there is more than 1 I dont know which one I have....

i think the other is the bw 1356. One hasan internal pump that pushes the fluid around I think.

Drive gear is in the TC or Transmission ...
Driven gear is on the cable.

I don't know about changing the drive gear on a BW1356. I think you have to pull it apart, Not sure though, I think Wreckingball just did a 1356, he might know.
