It is a gear driven speedo. The end of the cable will go into the transfercase at the rear. Pull it and check the gear for wear. While it is out and if the gear checks out fine, put a drill on it and spin it. You will see the speedo move If the cable and the speedo is good. If all the cable/gear and speedo check out it is most likely in the t-case. That is something I have no experience with sorry. A far as the wieght of the rig some one else will be on soon that should know.

Drive gear is in the TC or Transmission ...
Driven gear is on the cable.
I don't know about changing the drive gear on a BW1356. I think you have to pull it apart, Not sure though, I think Wreckingball just did a 1356, he might know.
