Starting problems
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 12-Dec-01 AT 05:52 PM (EST)]I have been having problems with my '98 XLT 5.4, it runs fine for a while then when you try to start it, it starts and stalls. I have been able to keep the idle up, put it in gear and get it to the mechanics (5 times so far) as soon as you let off the gas it stalls, even going high speeds. Let it sit a while and it runs fine. It has happened while hot and cold. Previous posts of this problem talk about "idle sensors" and "bypass valves", nothing specific enough for my mechanic to pinpoint. This condition doesn't leave any error codes in the computer. My mechanic has replaced the idle motor sensor and we thought this did it, till last night. The mechanic has given up and I have an appointment with the dealer (apparently so he can run a credit check to see what I can afford) if anybody has had this problem and knows specific parts that were the culprit, I would be very appreciative!!! Also, any advice on doing battle with the dealer would be greatly appreciated. I got an extended warranty but I think it only covers big ticket items...thanks!

Starting problems
Finally had to go to the dealer, they said it was a breather bypass valve...$208 out the door. This is one of many parts not covered by Ford's expensive extended warranty. They are parasites and I can't begin to describe I much I detest them!
when you pay all that money for "extra protection" and they wont' cough up the $$ when you need it!
