DP 80E Tune

I am new to the wonderful world of DP tuning. My question now is: How does your fuel mileage compare using the 80e to stock? I have read that some folks have gotten better mileage using the 80e tune over stock.

The 40T don't pull the hills quite as good as 80E.Seems the advantage is having enough power to pull the grades without downshifting.
On the open roads the mileage in 40T and 80E are bout the same

I got the tuner when John Wood rebuilt the tranny and I let him tell me what I needed. He said that for my use there is little difference between the 60 and 80. After meeting him and being able to hang in his shop for the day figured out real fast that this guy knows more about 7.3's then just about anyone on this planet.

The original purpose of 80E was for in-town stop and go daily driving. Not highway use. Thus the early low rpm shifts.

Both of my tunes are in overdrive at the same RPM.40T shifts earlier than 80E in the lower gears

Thanks for all the info. The reason I ask is my overhead display reads between 24 and 26 mpg. Prior to the chip install, cruising at 2000 rpm it would read between 18 and 19 which was close to hand calc. I know it's called a lie-o-meter and it now tells bigger lies. Just wondering how the chip affects the display.

Mmm. That seems backwards to me. I prefer and expect my tow tunes to hold longer between shifts and shift firmer. Cause they are, tow tunes.

My 60T winds out to much higher RPMs than my 60E or 80E.

I do get better mileage with the 80E in town and highway too. On flat highway I'll drop to 60E, but haven't had it long enough to see if that gives any better mileage.

I feel the same, in 80 econ I really have to put my foot into it to get a downshift at highway speeds.
I generally run in 80 tow on the open road, it tends to downshift easier.
Just my .02
