So I'm trying to finish up my disc brakes on the 66.... my questions are:
Has anyone used longer brake hoses for the disk brake upgrade instead of modifying the bracket the hose goes to? I bought the brake hoses for the 77 donor and they seem a little short and other members have modified the bracket but I just want a longer hose. Has anyone done this before and what years would work?
Also, what size of brake lines do I need to run from the master to the front and rear and what size fittings do I need?
Thanks John.. The only thing is I'm trying to use my original brackets as I didn't get the donor brackets. I know I can go to the junkyard and probably find them but I am trying to use what I got.
If I do go your route, are the brackets riveted or bolted on the donor? My original had one bolted and one riveted. Not sure if they all came like that.
John's version is the best, but what I did (and still works fine) is to simply unbolt the existing bracket and move it out about an inch. Just cut a piece of square tubing and used it as a spacer, got a longer bolt to hold it, and done. No special parts needed.
The metal lines you need the same diameter tubing that the truck currently has. Do not try to use larger tubing; it won't work. Hack some fittings off the master cylinder lines at the junkyard as they aren't typically found at the parts store; Ford uses some queer sizes. Cut the end off the new line and install with a double flare. No biggie.
