I interviewed a Ford engineer who worked on the 300 R&D. He said that Ford actually produced a 300 with an X-flow head that had an oe turbo set-up that produced more hp than a 460. He said that some were actually put in vehicles.
So let's imagine you're at the junkyard one day, and decide to open the hood of some old wreck, and there you find one of these engines.
Tell us what you think could be a better find at the Junkyard.
When I hit the junkyard, I always scan the VIN to see if I can find a low number or early production vehicle. I would love to find a 1980 truck with 000001 at the end of the VIN, then you would have a find...
Were these engines made during the end of the line for the 300's or were they something done in the middle years? I, myself couldn't really think of anything better than that. The only problem would be getting the proper replacement parts for them in order to rebuild the engine.
Only paid in full receipts my wife would be carrying would be the one she holds after selling all my goodies if she figures out how to use craigslist!!
I came across a 1963 1/2 galaxie 500 'R' code in my early military days. It originally came from the factory with a 427 dual quads, solid lifter cam 425 horse. Could never afford to put that thing back to stock. (they had stuffed a 429 in it)
Now that would have been a junkyard find that would have made my collector top moment!
Could never afford to put that thing back to stock
It IS all available anyway, tho. And if not we can adapt other parts.
Sometimes all it is "how much money do U have?"
To tell you the truth I don't think that kinda stuff mentioned would be in a common old junk yard. Do U, now? Factory proto types 300 XFlow?(the 1 I'm tryin to import for the 4.1, didn't start into production till '76, the XC). U think ford USA got the idea from Ford Oz?
