97 expy a/c issues

Compressor fried, replaced. Don't want to recharge before taking care of the practical issues, but...Accumulator will not come loose at the firewall. I've tried everything I know, need some tips here! Also, where the hell is the evap orifice? I pulled the tube at the firewall, not there, separated the line below bat box, no go. Where now?? FYI ..This sys has the rear unit as well. It sure is hot here! Help.. Thx

I have a 97 4.6 P/U. The orifice tube was located in the lower line coming from the condenser, just inside the engine from the front of the engine. It is below the high pressure line.

I had to use the tool to remove it.

Thx for the reply. my system is a bit different from yours, so I'm still in the dark on that. I did finally get the accumulator loose! it was bone dry. I pulled lines all over and never found that filter, and nobody i've talked with can tell me where to find it. I pulled it down, recharged, it isn't very cold so theres still anissue. but beats nothin i guess.

The orifice tube is often installed at the evaporator inlet, just inside fitting (not in the hose itself).

Depending on the mode of failure of the compressor, you may have debris in the system.

thanks forthe reply. I did check there and found nothing. I know there has to be one somewhere, I went ahead and charged the system anyway. Seems to be ok, not quit as cool as i like. pressures in tolerance.
