theres a few other threads about recaps. you should check the search.... there was one that got long. if your just drivin it without hauling then recap is fine, and im guessing you dont drive high speed.
i am currently running a set of recaps from the same company on my Toyota and they have been great, i was real happy with the company and the tires. i am hesitant to run recaps on my ford because i often carry at or near the load limits of my tires. i have been so happy with the tires on my Toyota however i am considering them for my next set on my ford
Id run recaps on the drives and new on the steers. Lots of big rigs run recaps, so they cant be that bad...........
Agreed about the steering wheels. When I worked at the local transit shop we'd put recaps on the rears but ALWAYS new on the fronts. However this messes with you if you do regular tire rotations on our light trucks.
I haven't done a decent tire rotation on my truck yet. Darn peg-leg differentials... I only get 1 tire at a time
lol, the other day it rained some and i was waitin to pull outta walmart. The fricken light finally changed and their was a gap big enough to sneak my ole truck out. So the pedal hit the floor and it was about 5 seconds before I started moving lol.

Your toyota is considerably lighter though...

only problem about that, is you usually cant find new and recaps to match. there was the company in that thread that used the bfg at tread. so that wouldnt be bad. and most truckers dont run recaps, the tires they have on their truck are regroveable. so when they are at their minimum tread depth, they get new grooves cut in them. they seperate because when they cut them they are a lot thinner then when they were new.
I have never tried them. I looked into some about a yr or so ago for another truck I had, but with shipping to TX it was pretty much a wash on the recap vs. new $ wise.
On a offroad forum I used to be on, most had good things to say about the recaps.
In commercial use recaps are not allowed on the steer axle and I know in the summer time heat down here on the 18 wheelers running loaded heavy its not uncommon for the recaps on the drives to come apart.
yes the Toyota is considerably lighter that is why i say im hesitant to run them on my ford. but tread wright recaps are the best quality recaps you can buy IMO. if you decide to run recaps i highly suggest them. if you normally run your truck with light loads or empty i say go for it. but for me i load my truck heavy all the time. makes me hesitant to put them on my ford

I'm willing to bet the biggest part of that was underinflation...
tire rack has good prices sometimes, but you have to pay for shipping so it is cheaper to buy locally. keep an eye on craigslist.org i found a guy locally that own a napa. he buys wholesale tires and sells them at a discount. i buy all my tires from him, til i found my 42's lol. he had all the way up to 40x13.5x18's and they were only $500 bucks. 35x12.5x16's were 600 bucks.
