I was looking to getting a new fuel tank for my 79 ford note:The frame is a 76 F.250 4x4 which never had a tank in the frame. Also it is 29in. in the inside of of the frame rails side to side. I am trying to get a fuel tank that is bigger than the origonal 19 gallon tank one on the end of the frame. I was looking at LMC with their 38 gallon one but it is metal. So next I looked at Bronco graveyard with where they only had the 19 gallon one in plastic. So then I went to the Bronco section and found a 33 gallon plastic one for a 78-79 Bronco. I called and was told the eyeballed dimensions were 29.5in.x19inx15.25in. which seemed to me to be pretty deep and wid for my application. So my main question is there anyone out there which has put one of these plastic 33 gallon Bronco tanks in the rear of their trucks with the thinner frame rails or even the 38 gallon LMC tank? Also how low does it hang from the frame? Thanks in advance
The 23 gal worked out ok for me as it was the largest I could find for a factory look job. I got 10 mpg with no problem so good 200 mile range has many stations to stop at. I did sell the truck and delivered it last weekend to Sturgeon Bay, Wi. I drove straight thru running at least 70 mph. Ran like a champ. I will miss her though. But time for a new project.
I have a 38 gallon in my SC. Didn't get it from LMC though. Searched tanks online and got it quite a bit cheaper. 1Aauto, I'll take a pic and post it later.
I am thinking of using the 38 gallon LMC tank, but before I ordered it I was wondering if anyone got a pic of their truck with one in it.
I could be wrong.....but then I may not....but the bronco tank you may be looking at is for the wider frame f series width trucks/broncos, you need the camper special fuel tank from the cab/chassis trucks like my 78 f350 2wd crew cab or a custom tank from an aftermarket co...or have one made...I bought a 74 crew cab 4wd w/ a custom 55 gals aft fuel tank and Bucks77 installed an after market tank

X2 on the truck/bronco tank. It is wider than the frame rails. It has to sit entirely under the frame. The only tank to my knowledge to fit between the frame rails is custom made or bronco II. The bronco II tank is 23 gal. I think someone here also used a tank ford a 80's ranger. If I remember correctly it was around 15 gal.
I`ve been reading here and looking around on the internet about fuel tanks. Since the stock 19 gallon will not fit my truck and a extra capacity fuel tank or a Bronco tank looks to hang too low to me, so I am planning on going to Summit and getting a fuel cell. I was looking on there and to my knoweladge I will have to use one of their fuel sending units which operates on 0-90 ohms (0 is empty) and according to what I have read here is that 73-79 ford trucks operated on 10-70 ohms (70 is empty). So my main question now is can I change my gauges operating ohms to 0-90? Also what has anyone else done with their fuel cells gauge?
