I'm new to this site and new to the hobby. I just bought a 65 F100 long bed with a 223 4 speed. I picked her up today and drove her home (about 300miles). I stopped for gas half way home and noticed oil leaking from the engine/trans junction. Once I got her home and looked underneath I found two missing bolts from the bottom. I'm new to all this and was hoping to have a truck that didn't "need" any work right away but one that I could drive while working on it and learning. My question to you guys is do you know the size of those bolts? I assume there is a gasket that goes in between and it may need to be replaced. How much work is this going to be and am I going to end up pulling the tranny so I can properly fix it? Thanks a bunch and I love this site already.
cheers
Charles
ps. I don't know how to post pics but maybe I'll try to add them to my album?
Post the VIN and it will tell us what engine was in it when it left the factory.
Just what two bolts are missing? The rear oil pan bolts? Depends where on the pan they are located as there are two different sizes based on where there missing. Can either be 1/4 20x 1/2 or 5/16 18 x 1/2
Removal of the oil pan for gaskets can be a bear as it is a front sump and the cross member is in the way.
Thanks for the reply. I don't think it's from the oil pan that all looked to be ok. I've been reading more on here and am worried it may be from the rear main seal. I added a few pics of the place with missing bolts to my album, it's called my diamond. The vin is F19JL612474. If I have to replace the rear main seal it looks as if the cross member will be in the way as well?
