Thoughts and Ideas Needed

Hello everyone! I am currently awaiting the bus to come and pick us up at the hotel here in Ecuador, but just saw this truck and wanted some thoughts. I have a 78 F100 much like this one, but was curious what everyone thought about putting the flatbed on the back instead of the standard bed? Thoughts and comments are appreciated. I do have to say I have seen about 10 different Dentsides here in Ecuador, and all have been in great shape, and seem to do very well here in Cuenca, Ecuador...high altitude and cool weather! Also they have A LOT of F600's running around here as well...pics will follow of the others seen this week on my Mission Trip!

If I were to do it, I would put one on like the yellow and white truck. Did some of the others have flatbeds too? It's pretty cool to see how good these trucks hold up over there.

Those trucks look to be in great shape. Can't wait to see the rest of the pictures. I have a friend that is from Ecuador. You can make a living with a pickup truck down there. That is probably the reason for the custom beds. That way they can carry a wider variety of loads.

Makes me wonder what they did with the factory beds when they took them off to put the custom ones on. I can just picture all of these rust free factory beds sitting around...

There isn't much just sitting around...The others I saw had the regular set up, and every time I saw one, we were always on the bus heading somewhere, and I wasn't able to stop and talk with the owners. I really wanted to stop and look at their set-ups, to get an idea what they were running. More than likely they are all manual transmissions of some sort, and I would guess they would be running a diesel engine of some sort, or a 300???? again, not sure, but really wanted to take a look.

The blue one was the only one I could have talked to the guy, but our taxi was pulling up as he was walking into the market...

I would more than likely do a set up like the yellow and white truck...I would do wood sides, and a diamond plate floor, and possibly do some trim work down the side to fill in around the rear tire????

Thanks for the reply's thus far, and again, I am just feeling out the idea...I have a good friend that could make a bed for me, no problems at all, so the most cost would be in the wood, and paint...but it would cost less to paint the overall truck if I went this route, and of course I would keep my bed, to have as an option in the future if so desired.

Any other thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

As far as the other pics, it will be later this week, sitting in Guayaquil, Ecuador airport right now, waiting to board our flight to ATL! so far it is delayed about an hour, so it will be around 6:00 in the morning when we land in ATL...then a 3 hour trip home to Alabama! Pics will be uploaded then, due to internet connection, and power supply!

Personally Im not a flat bed guy! I like the stock beds. I suspose if I used my truck for work on a daily basis I might change my mind.

Couldn't agree more. If I had a bunch of tools, torches and welding sets, they would probably be set up on the back of a flatbed. Otherwise, I think a regular box does the exact same job as a flatbed, regardless of what you're doing.

Reason for answer: How many times do you catch yourself saying "damn, I really could have used a flatbed for this job..."

I personally have never said that my entire life of trucking a multitude of things around.

Garbage, powertools, wrenches, welding sets, tires, junk (everyone loves a good dump ), motorcycles, skidoos, furnature, furnaces, water heaters.... the list goes on and on.

There has never been a time when my flatbed trailer couldn't do the job right either. I mean, that's what they're for. <3 Motorcycles
