I haven't posted here in a while seeing as the Ex is running great and haven't had any major repairs lately. There are alot of threads out there on buying advice, but I did not find anything about selling. Here goes:
I have a 2000 XLT 4X4 w/114,000 miles, V-10 engine. I need to have a truck that gets better mileage, and has a bed. I have it on local CL, but there have only been a few bites. I recently thought about trading it in, but the numbers are staggering. Some stealerships will only give me $3k, while others have offered $6500. I feel like the truck is worth about $10k straight out and realize that I will take a hit on a trade. Anybody have any advice as far as getting a dealership to see the value of the vehicle, or should I just enjoy my Ex, add some more toys, and tell my wife that I tried, but I just can't sell it .
Thanks,
Erik

You never mention what motor is in it... V-8, V-10 or the 7.3 Diesel...
You make a very good point. I hate when others do that, now I see how easy it is. It has the V-10. If it had a 7.3 it would be gone I am sure. I edited the OP with the info. Thanks for the heads up.
I'd also suggest the market place as many have successfully sold their trucks there. I'd also suggest ebay if you REALLY want to sell it, but that depends on if you really need to get rid of it
I recently sold an 05 6.0l 4x4 limited on CL in a day
But it is was perfect, low miles extended warranty from ford.it sold 30k.
I then bought a 2000 2x4 limited with 130k miles and a v10 for 6k.
I think you will have a hard time getting 10,000 for your vehicle even if it is prefect! Maybe you should have purchased an extended warranty before hitting 100k miles . That may have raised the price some. The dealer is going to have to still try to make some money so if he gives you 3k he need to sell it for 6k hopefully.
Good Luck
its funny, location makes such a huge differance on this subject.
when i put mine up for sale i put it out there for a price i thought i'd never get...$2500 more then i paid for it infact. and i got it..all in cash.
now i'm trying to find another one because i just cant go without an Ex i miss my old one so much. now trying to find a decently priced one is crazy also.
i say keep it up for sale for awhile..if it doesnt sell enjoy it because you may regret selling...i know i do. the 8cents a mile differance(based on my driving and milage tracking) between my explorer and the excursion just isnt worth not having the excursion.
I just bought my second exc last week. One big factor is what the loan value is. My bank said low retail and my credit union said 85 percent of retail. So they would only loan around 8500 on my 2000 with low mileage... But I loved it and paid 14,000! You should check pricing on cars.com and autotrader.com which is were I found the one I bought 400 miles away. Good luck
If you want to keep it and keep the wife happy just price it with all the stuff you have added, you know, about $14K. Then if it dosent sell you can always say you really tried.
I bought my '01 limited with 113k miles, v10, 2x4 for $8500 earlier this year. In Florida, I think 10k would be pushing it in the private market. You might be able to get 9k if you are pretty lucky and have nothing that needs to be done to it.
I think I got a fair deal but I have a total of about $1k-1.5k that needs to be put into it to bring it up to my personal specs. For example, think about shocks, tires, brakes. if any of that is newer and can be proven it will help the resale.
