questions for experts!

Hey guys, I am new to the forum now, but have been browsing it for years as I have always had Ford trucks. My current truck is a 2000 F350 7.3L with a 6 speed ZF. I got the truck about a month ago and have already started rustprofing (POR 15) and replacing worn front end parts - ball joints, wheel bearing etc...

Anyways, this morning on my way to work my truck was blowing white smoke, which I understand is unburnt fuel. I noticed it at a stoplight, there was a good ammount drifting by my passenger window. The temperature was up to normal operating and it continued to blow white smoke all the way to work (5 miles). When I parked in the lot I got out to inspect it, revved the engine a little and it was gone?? Any ideas what this could be??

My other question is not important, but I'm curious as to why my truck is way noisier inside the cab than my buddies 2001 with an automatic? Is the shifter cutout in the floor letting that much sound thru? I thought it was double booted... Just wondering...

Thanks in advance for the help!

I get a fair amount of smoke from my CCV mod. It's running just down to the front axle

Could be a blown oil seal in the turbo allowing oil to enter the exhaust side. Check the exhaust tip for dripping oil.

Only time mine blew white smoke, it was the fuel pump starting to go. Maybe white smoke is the lack of fuel.

This is a very distinct possiblity.
I'm not saying that's what it IS.
.
To the original poster: what you need to do is to make sure that the fuel pressure is good.
The injector o-rings are all good.
No play, in and out on the turbo shaft.

I'm glad there was no oil in the exhaust.

Another possibility is that an injector was stuck open and is now working properly. When an injector gets stuck open there is fuel pumping out on the exhaust stroke and causing the white smoke.

As far as your second question, In 1999, and 2000 there was only a single layer of insulation between the engine and the cab, in 2001 ford added a second layer of insulation on the engine side of the firewall, and things got much quieter.

Well that explains that one! Thanks for the info, luckily I love the sound of my engine so I'm not too concerned.... On another topic, does anyone know what boost and pyro gauges I could get to look somewhat like factory with the green back lights? I was thinking the under dash tripple pod for a spot... Any advice?

These dipricol gauges are about the closest I've seen and IIRC Izzy has them. I'm gonna be ordering a set in the next month or so.

Dont order the Dipricols. Many folks have had issues with the service from the distributor lateley. The guages are made in India, and the American distributor really doesnt care if your guages work or not.
