1989 F-250 will not start at all.

Ive got a 1989 F-250 with e4od trans and 5.0 motor that will not start! The only way it will actually start and try running is if you hold the key as if your still starting it. but once you let off the key the truck does nothing (all gauges and lights turn off) i think there may be some loose wires under the steering column but im not sure. has any one else experienced this? any help would be appreciated.
