I have a 1985 f250 with the 351w. Today after about an hour drive I shut it off and later on went to start back up and new battery was dead. So I replaced the alternator. Easy fix. Then after that, it started right up and idled great went to take off and the motor dies. So I started back up and eased into it. At about 2-3000 rmps, it cuts out and spits and sputters. Thought it was a gas related problem so replaced the fuel pump, and the fuel filters. Didnt help. I havnt replaced the spark plugs and was going to try that tomorrow. Would it do that if some of them were beat and just spit and sputter and backfire?? Let me know what you guys think I appreciate all your help...
Failing spark can give those symptoms, but not necessarily just the plugs.....any of the ignition components failing will tend to show at increasing temp. & rpm - eg coil, cap, plug wires etc
No water in the gas? It's been driving OK, so probably not a major carb problem.
its been driving great. Alittle sputter when first taking off if temp is not up but it clears out first time you rev it up. There is no clearing this up lol...
well it was the plugs... THanks for you help. It worked out good because I got a trade offer that day and no longer have the truck. Couldn't pass up this deal.
