How do I remove the front bearing in my alternator- 89 F150, 5.0L. It is an external fan-internal regualator with side connection. I have the halves split and the rear bearing looks to be pretty strait-forward but the front puzzles me. I thought the armature/shaft would just slip out but seems to be held firm in the front cap. Does it need to be pressed out or maybe I haven't got aggressive enough with it?
A couple of swift whacks with a soft punch and it came loose. In my younger days I'd smack first and ask questions later after the part crumbled in my hands. I've found it much more economical to ask first if I'm not sure.
