hey guys im planning on doing a zf swap while im home on r&r in a couple months, already have the tranny, replacing a 435. my question is will i be able to use the original master cylinder or will i need a new one? i know i need a new line but i dont know if the fittings are different. also can i re use the original xmember and just drill some new holes? any help is appreciated
I am assuming you have a little bit later truck that already had a hydraulic clutch? If so, I would go to Autozone or some other place and look up your truck's master cylinder and the later truck's master cylinder and see if they are the same part number. I bet they both will bolt in, but I am not sure about mixing and matching lines. When I did my zf swap, I swapped the slave, master and line as one unit and did not take them apart.
I believe your 4 speed is very close to the same length as the zf. But if you do need to move the crossmember, there are holes in the bottom frame rail already there. The problem comes in with the short upper crossmembers. If you need to move the bottom crossmember, the upper short ones will not fit and you need the proper upper crossmembers, or you will have to drill holes for the upper ones to fit. The factory did not have extra holes for the upper crossmembers, they made them with different offsets to fit the different trannies.
