99 f250 sd 5.4 turn key just does one click, you can arc it across on the solinoid it will run the parts guy said it was the either the solinoid or the starter so I got the new solinoid same thing could it be as simple as a fuse and if so which one thanks.
Is this a manual transmission? Could be a clutch safety switch issue. If it's an automatic trans then there is probably a safety switch on the shifter. I think you just need to break out the test light and start backtracking.
its a automatic and where would the safety switch be, checked all the fuses and the fuses are good probably just gonna take it to the ford dealership and ask them. does anyone know if it cost anything to run a computer on it at the dealership? because i live in a small town and there is just the dealership and the local napa but the napa doesnt have one
no i mean i cant start it with the key but if i turn the key to on and use a pliers i can arc it on the solinoid with the pliers and it will start
With the ignition on, any Ford will start if you short the starter solenoid with pliers or a screwdriver. You're replicating the function of the starter solenoid when you short across the terminals.
You either have a bad solenoid or the circuit that energizes the solenoid is broken.
o.k. on all newer trucks the solinod is energized by a relay it is located in fuse box under hood owners manual will tell you wich one. switch relays with something you can live without temp and see if that cures the problem.
thanks for the input guys but i went out and started checking all the fuses and all were good so i went under the truck and messed with the wires going to the transmission and the one on the drivers side, the lock was broken so it wasnt pushed in all the way so i cleaned it up and pushed it on and she started right up
