I have a 1989 F-150 4.9 4 speed. Both tanks are full. The front reads empty and when you switch to the rear it burries past full. Any ideas what I have going on here? Thanks
Well the rear tank could be just cause it is full cause mine does that when i fill my tanks up to the brim. now the front reading empty when the tank is full usually means the float sensor in the tank is bad and needs to be replaced you can probably get a new float from ford for like 20 bucks dealers used to stockpile those things
Sending unit(s). Believe the whole thing (pump/sender/fuel return) is one unit on the '89. I use my trip meter as my gas gauge.
I don't even use my 2nd tank as the PO said "don't!".
It's funny - my '89 (same spec's as yours) reads empty all the time. I have a '97 Ranger that reads empty all the time. I had a '96 Ranger with the same problem. Looks like a trend here
When I tried a "stuck in the snow" maneuver to get my '97 Ranger on ramps the fuel sender finally worked. Probably all that jarring action. It stopped working shortly thereafter.
