speaking of tranny coolers...how about temps?

my automatic trans produces temps that I don't like to see. Either my gauge is broken or something is seriously wrong.

If i'm driving on the highway no load (other than the truck itself and me...and I don't weigh THAT much ) I may see temps as high as 220*f. That's driving about 65 with windows open.... engine temp is "normal" (just about the the cold mark). I think its definately time for a larger cooler but is this the cause of the problem or does it sound like I have a larger underlying problem?

Thanks,
Al

I'm no tranny expert but it sounds like you must have a plugged cooler or lines somewhere not allowing fluid to move. I'd be checking that first, as it wouldn't be too hard to do.

Mine runs about 160* unloaded in 90* outside temps.

I think your cooler is plugged, fluid is old, or filter is getting old.

I have a bigger cooler though...
