First post for me, Ive been looking around the site for a while now and there is a lot of great info here...
I have a 2005 F250 6.0 CC 4x4 that i bought a few months ago, 103k, only truck of the 7 or 8 i was intersted in that had no warrnty work done per the oasis
I bought a stock size (3.5")muffler delete pipe from puredieselpower.com, its about 2 inches shorter than my stock muffler (which I didnt realize unitl after is welded) question is- has anyone else installed one of these and (if yours was short also) how did you accomodate? grind the weld out at the back? how long did that take? my idea was to keep the stock muffler in case I ever wanted/needed to put back on.
i got the cat delete (your link) also, it fits okay, went in easily. i went back and read the reviews on the muffler delete and a few say it was too short- one said it was too long. just trying to see if anyone knows a better way to get this done. right now looks like i have to grind off the welds on the hanger (which are blocking the weld on the pipe at the back of the muffler) then the pipe, while attempting not to damage the muffler in the process
^ thats exactly what i've got...may just do what albran suggested and take it to a muffler shop and get them to grind the welds out and get the pipe out of the muffler- according to the reviews there is a few inches of pipe inside the muffler itself, enough to make up the shortfall.
i did think about just having a shop make a pipe to go on the end of the extension pipe w/ about 24" straight then elbow out ahead of the rear wheel. would eliminate all the work above and get me a side discharge (i'll buy the wheel cleaner now)
I would save all 'removed' pieces/parts since you may be putting them back on....
everybody has different thresholds when sound turns to "noise"
straight pipe was JUST ok around town
(still loud with my driving style - windows up, ac on, radio loud...),
but WAY too much drone on trips and that's what we got the Ex for....
YRMV and IMHO and etc.... lol
for the muffler delete I did not weld it because I want to be able to remove it if I have to. So I used self taping hex screws and that pipe still has a very strong hold.
