Hey guys. Can you guys believe that I have had this truck for almost 1 year and I had never driven it over 50mph. Well today I did and when I hit 65-70mph the front started to vibrate real bad. When I got home I got underneath it and as far as I can tell the u-joints are shot. They look original and they have 117,000 miles on them. My question is do they replace the same way as the ones on the rear drive shaft? I hope so because I replaced those ones and it was very easy. Also when I did the rear ones I put in ones that have grease fittings. Do they make these for the front? I know that I'm not a mechanic and this message board gives me the confidence that I need to fix things myself. Thanks in advance.
I actually was. There was a lot of snow on the highway and I was giving my wife a ride to work because she doesn't like to drive in the snow. I had it in 4-hi. Is this bad for the truck. I used to have an Explorer and I would do it all the time. I hope I didn't tear up the tranfer case and that was why it was vibrating. Anyway the u-joints are loose and I was just wondering if you change them the same way as the rear drive shaft ones.
Thanks.
They change the same as the back but you also have a constant velocity to deal with. Those can be a real pain without four hands and a way to compress it. I tried and wound up throwing it against a wall before breaking down and taking it to a shop.
