My wife jokes that we went out to buy some fireworks on Saturday and came back with a new truck!
It's an 04 Black Eddie Bauer 6.0L 4x4. It does show a little wear, but surprisingly little with 114K on it. It does have a little bit of wander while driving, but I will be looking into that issue. I did get a 2 yr drive train warranty to give us a little peace of mind.
I do have some wear on the rear hatch/doors from some rubbing. Is that normal? I can put up some pics of it if necessary.
The shocks look well worn (read old and rusty, but no leaks). Should I be looking into some new ones or do they last a very long time?
The factory stereo was replaced by an Alpine one. Not a bad deck, but the DVD system only works on the headphones now. That may or may not be a good thing.
The Diesel maintenance is a bit intimidating since I've never owned one before. I'll try getting a copy of the oasis. I looked at it briefly at the dealership before purchasing.
The scratches on the barn doors are sort of normal. I say sort of because it happens on most Ex's but can be adjusted. I had mine adjusted and the rear doors repainted just before the warranty expired. SOme Ex's even came with a piece of clear tape on the doors to keep from scratching. There is a TSB about rubber bumpers on the bottom of the black plastic piece on the glass.
As for the wander....its also normal but can be pretty much adjusted out.
As for the diesel maintenance. Just replace the oil and filter at the proper time and your good to go. I use the Rotella synthetic from WalMart. Just MAKE SURE you use a motorcraft oil filter. There are issues with the aftermarket ones. You will need a BIG drain pan since it takes 15 quarts. But the oil filter is a piece of cake because it is on top of the engine.
I was at Walmart the other day, but I didn't see the oil you are talking about. I may have to check another store in the area. Any idea how much all filters will cost me and where is the best place (read cheapest) to buy oem filters?
Further playing with the stereo found the DVD player is connected to the Aux port of the stereo, but it sounds attrocious! The two right rear speakers aren't even working and the rest are terrible sounding. I'll be upgrading soon.
Is it ok to use a Motorcraft filter if it is from Walmart ($20)? I saw one there that was for the 7.3, but I couldn't find what filter the 6.0 took. They had another one there, but I don't remember what the number was.
I'm having a hard time finding the Rotella Synthetic. I just went to a larger Walmart last night and while they had some, it was not the correct weight. I'll keep searching.
The Rotella Synthetic you are using...is it 5W40? I've been able to find that, but no 15W40. I have been searching all the Walmarts in the area for that stuff and I can't even find it on the internet. Thanks!!!

Yep, 5W40. The WalMart near me carries it but it goes quickly. I go to WalMart about 3x a week so about a month b4 I need to change my oil I start looking for it. It's like $19 for 4 quarts. You need to get 4 of them since it take 15 quarts. I also get the oil filter there. That's about $20 ish.
I use the synthetic because I only change it once a year. I don't put much milage on it. (it now has 33k)
