T code front springs

Hello everyone. I have come to the same conclusion that several other members here have (the OEM front springs HAVE to go) and will be undertaking this swap when I get home from Iraq. I have come across a set of springs that I have since been able to ID as T code springs. My question is, has anyone put T codes on thier Ex? I only found one thread that addressed this https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...p-springs.html and it says the T's produced about 1.25" of lift from stock.

Once concern I have is that the T's are rated at 4400# instead of the 5200# that the V's are rated at. If anyone has any information I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks all.

Bill

If CaryT is around, he's one of the best sources for info on handling and spring issues with the EX. I'm pretty sure the V10 EX cames with "C" code front springs that are rated at 4300#. I would not expect much gain in swapping to a 4400# spring.

I'm sure others with more experience and knowledge than I will add to this.

I did a bit more research in my files and came up with this. it has been posted many times. It shows a gain of approx 1.42 in for a V10 using T codes

Application---Code---Capacity-----Rate----Travel --------- V-10 ----- PSD
------------------------------------------/spring---to Max Cap ----height ----height
------------------------------------------------------------------------ change --- change
Exc V8 --------- B ----- 4100 ----- 330 ----- 5.02 ---------- -0.25 ----- -0.66
Exc V10 ------- C ----- 4300 ----- 350 ----- 5.01 ----------- 0.00 ----- -0.37
Exc PSD ------ D ----- 4700 ----- 380 ----- 5.14 ---------- +0.33 ---- 0.00

F250/350 All springs are computer selected
Also the use of a rear sway bar and what size it is package dependent

Application---Code---Capacity-----Rate------Travel --------- V-10 ----- PSD
--------------------------------------- /spring---to Max Cap ----height ----height
------------------------------------------------------------------- change --- change
SD-250/350
------------------ S --------4000 ----- 370 ------ 4.34 --------- +1.22 --- +0.88
------------------ T --------4400 ----- 390 ------ 4.63 --------- +1.42 --- +1.11
------------------ U --------4800 ----- 410 ------ 4.89 --------- +1.60 --- +1.32
------------------ V --------5200 ----- 430 ------ 5.13 --------- +1.77 --- +1.50

F450 ----------- W --------5600 ----- 450 ------ 5.34 --------- +2.77 --- +2.52

So even though the T's are only rated 100 pounds more, do the T springs have a better arch than the OEM Ex springs?

my question is... Are we talking leaf springs, or coil springs? (I understand they changed to coil springs at some time) Is this just the rear springs or do the front springs rate the same? and do they need to match (front and rear)?
I know that these are all Noobie questions, but I am probably not the only one on here who doesn't understand.

Due to the fact that 2005 was the last year of the Excursion, they did not undergo certain new upgrades that the F250s got. They did not receive coil springs, nor did their v10s get the new 3 valve per cylinder motor. So yes it would be leaf springs. However talking to a off road shop in town you can mod your Ex and put coil springs under the front, but not very economical.

Yes, but that's not why the spring is a leaf spring. Since the spring is a swap from the F250/350 trucks, and the 250/350's did get coils, and the OP is doing a swap with springs from the F truck, I can understand joenmell's question.

In this case though, I don't believe Ford has mixed designations with the coils and leafs, using the same designations for both. So that means a T designation signifies it's a leaf spring. It's not because Excursions didn't get the coils.

I'm not very knowledgable on leaf spring specifications. I'm still curious as to whether the arch/lift of the spring is directly proportional to the weight rating. I will be home from Iraq in a month or so and I need to know whether the T code springs will do what I need them to or not. Thanks everyone.

The spring rate is different so the arc to the spring could be different as well. If the chart is accurate ( and I have no reason to beleive it is not), then the "height" gained would be a combination of the higher spring rate AND a more arched spring.

IMHO oif course. Ther are much more knowledgable resources around (check Powerstrokers, The Diesel Stop, as well as here on FTE).

I think I'm going to give the T codes a shot when I get home. I will deffinitely take before and after pictures and measurements when I do the swap.

If anyone is looking for V code or X code North End Auto Wrecking in Dubuque Ia. has many sets, I picked up mine today and noised around to find 4 more V sets and one X set. They get $65 each(130pair) for them and will ship to you(for a price of course). They were great to deal with. I also picked up a rear sway bar with most of the hardware and 4in blocks. I found them on carparts.com. www,northendwrecking.com
