You would think such a rare and exotic truck would be kept someplace other than a haybarn.

Maybe it's the SUPER rare "barn find". All original, sat for years, ran when parked. Seems to be an abundance of those on CR and Ebay.

I'd say it was rare...even when brand new, because...
Ford assembled exactly
839 1966 F100 4WD Flaresides, and this production figure includes both short
and long bed versions.
The survival rate for vehicles of this vintage is 10%. So...how many of each bed type are still extant today?
btw: 4,493 F100 4WD Stylesides were assembled in both short and long bed versions. so these trucks are rare today as well.
And, exactly 175 1966 F100 4WD's were assembled as a Cab & Chassis.
But rare doesn't always equal mega-bucks...unless you're speaking of custom bodied Packards, Duesenbergs and Cadillacs assembled in 1933/34, the two worst years of the Great Depression.

The 10% survival rate is well known within the auto industry for vehicles of this vintage.
1965 production figures do not break down how many were 4WD or 2WD, as FoMoCo lumped these two figures into one.
For 1965 F100's, the following data is all that's available:
1: Chassis & Windshield / 25: Platform (Flat Bed) / 148: Platform & Rack (Stake Bed) / 5,995: Cab & Chassis / 34,184: Flareside Pickup / 178,581:
Styleside Pickup.
A Fleetside is a
Chevrolet or
GMC pickup. Ford called their version Styleside.

It's not the truck you are paying $25K for, it's the "custom chrome work" in the bed and "special lights" for snipe hunting.
