major electrical problems

Earlier I posted that my door switches were staying hot. I found the fuse for these switches and it was very hot to the touch hours after I had shut off the vehicle. We had a good rain and I found that the windshield is leaking water right into the driver side of the dash.

I go out to start the truck today and nothing. I have not driven it since Friday afternoon. I've had it on the charger for about an hour now and it still won't start. I hear a clicking like the starter is trying. Also, when I go to crank the engine, the gauges and warning lights on the dash start bouncing around and flashing. Any thoughts?

Any guesses? With the charger off the battery, there is a clicking coming from either Relay 1 or 2 on the fuse box under the dash. I'm out of town now and really have not had time to delve into the problem.

Sounds like something shorted out and drained your battery. The leaky windshield will allow water down into the fuse box and gem module area giving you all sorts of electricall issues. You will want to get that fixed first before you get too much water in there and have corrosion. Then you will need to remove the fuse box and check the back side of it for corrosion and you may even find signs of your electrical problem there.

I'll definitlely need to get the leaking windshield repaired as soon as I get back home. Any idea what it may cost to have a shop locate and repair this electrical problem?

What pisses me off is, I just picked up the vehicle from a private seller and they did not disclose any of these issues. I'm considering taking them to small claims court over the costs of any needed repairs.

Probably lots. They will probably just want to replace stuff like most others do. At least on here we kinda have an idea of what others have run into for problems and usually what they had to do to sovle them.

With the original owners they might not have seen any issues, it is just hard to tell. Do they have new batteries installed?

just spent a couple hours reading through old posts. I'm leaning towards a damaged GEM. Is this something I can replace myself, or will I have to turn to a dealer. I'm afraid this will be a costly repair.

When I left the house at 5:00 yesterday, the interior lamp relay was clicking rapidly. Just got home at 9:00 this evening and the same relay is still flashing away and battery is too drained to operate any lighting, just a dim flicker to the rear dome light.

My plan for tomorrow:
1) pull battery and have it tested
2) check for any loose grounds in the engine bay
3) pull GEM and fuse box for cleaning/corosion check
4) track down scum who sold me this vehicle without full disclosure of problems and donkey kick him in the junk.

Anyone else thinking this is probably a GEM issue?
