Need your guys help. last night had the truck loaded with people. 2 sat on the top of the cab and the cargo light would not go off. eventually it did. when we got in the truck, I had lost my mileage odometer and the radio wasn't working. this morning the batteries were almost dead, and the fuse for the interior dome lights/cargo light was blown. replaced it and it did not blow again. so everything is working. but I am wondering if I have a small short. help me, to check for a current draw, do you put a ampmeter in series from the positive of one of the batteries to the positive battery cable with the positive disconnected from both batteries. Has anyone had this happpen.
thanks guys for any help.
the dome lamp screws are what make contact in these plastic bushing pieces in the roof of your truck. so when they sat on the cab, the top sheet metal simply touched the screws and grounded it out.
Some of the cab and cargo lights have screws that are hot and are too long, they touch the sheet metal if pushed on, remove the cab/cargo light and look for hot (ie: 12v+) screws that are to long.
thanks guys.
so what is the actual fix. would plastic screws be better. obviously I don't have people sitting on the cab all the time. but it did drain the batteries.
thanks for the help
Sometimes you can recover them with a fast charge battery charger, but in the end you will still wind up needing to replace them before winter if you are in a cold region.
too bad you arent local and i wasnt ready to get my new batteries. mine are 6 months old, 3 year warranty on them. duralast golds. i wanna switch to agm batteries.
