Hey guys whenever i coast or let off the throttle anywhere between 15-40 mph theres some pretty loud "chatter" comin from under the bed. Not sure how else to describe it. It goes away immediately with any throttle. Its not the rpms that cause it to go away im sure its the load on the drivetrain from the throttle. Hopefully its just a u joint maybe? Or is this a rear end problem?
I would jack up your truck and do some checking of the ujoints first like you mentioned. With that lift maybe you are putting more strain on them?? Just a thought, sounds like ujoints to me though.
Im guessin I'd be able to easily tell if either of these were shot? I checked the u joints but they seemed to be pretty tight. Not sure about the bearing though.
More of a clatter. Kind of sounds like a baseball card hittin the spokes on a bike. Started sqealing real bad today, not sure if its part of that or just a sqeaky brake. U joints seem pretty solid, no slack or play in the driveshaft at all.
Well I would loosen the lugs lightly chock the from tires and put the rear on jack stands have some one else run it and see if you can hear where its coming from. Then pull both tires and inspect the brakes and then try and see if you can find the problem.
Sometimes the u-joints are still the problem even with them feeling firm. The sleeve roller bearings dry out and get slightly twisted in there and damm near weld them selfs to the joint head. When that happens the off set causes un due stress on all other areas along the shaft.
I would not pull the u-joints unless you have experience in doing that without posting here for some advice first. Best of luck.
