Power Windows...

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum, but not to the truck scene. I have a problem with my power windows, and have searched and searched with no results on how to really solve the problem (it's not the common they just don't work problem). Needless to say, the windows do not work on either side. The switches at the door still control the power locks, but neither side will open/close windows, there is no noise or anything from the motor as it's not getting any power. Also, I believe there is a short somewhere because it keeps popping the fuse under the hood every time I start the truck, I went through 4 fuses and realized they pop the second the truck is started and NOT when I press the switch to move the windows... I also checked both switches to make sure all connection were good and they looked good. Any ideas on where I should start looking? Any specific grounds I should check? I'm not the best at figuring out electrical glitches, but I can follow directions pretty well so I'm hoping I can get some help here...

Thanks in advance,
Rafal

The real problem area with this circuit is the door jamb area where the wires bend all the time when the doors are opened. They can break inside the loom and cause all types of problems. Usually the driver's door is used more than the pass side, and it can be the one to give problems.

power windows

I just had a similar problem with the power windows not working. One has not worked for a year and the other just quit on me. I did not have any fuse problems however. That was the first place I looked. I have an 89 and the book says it is not a fuse, rather a circut breaker, which I was told will reset itself should there be a problem. I checked and the dealer wanted 17.00 for a little cb. I removed both door panels, checked all the connections. Actually found one positive wire disconnected but I probably did that messing around in there. The door jam area was inspected and no broken wires. Rather than spend any more time on this, I took it to a local elec trouble shooter and it was determined both motors quit. for just around 300. I now have brand new, not remanufactured, motors and the windows work like a charm. This is not something I wanted to do myself. It took a whole hour and a half to get this done.
