So I checked my door for the rear axle code - 19. Means I have the el-cheapy rear - 3.55 non-limited slip?? So I ask you. What does it mean?
Would I be better with with 3.31s? 3.73s? I know what Limited Slip means. But whats the deal with the ratios?
It depends on what you use your vehicle for. 3.55 doesn't mean cheap by any stretch of the imagination. It merely means that the driveshaft rotates 3.55 times for every revolution of the wheel.
If you primarily drive your vehicle on paved roads and more specifically at highway speeds a lower number (3.31 or 3.55) is better. This is because your engine will be turning less RPM's and your mileage should improve. If you tow or are an offroader, you need to get your RPM's up in a hurry for low end power. Hence, you'd probably need lower gears like 3.73 or 4.10.
