64 Dash Restore
- Someone painted the dash and it looks like crap. Can this be removed and painted? If not what is the best method for painting it while being installed?
- Do most people try and stay with orginal gauges or do they go with a newe gauge cluster? I only have the big dial gauge and two empty (no gauges ever mounted) stops.

First remove everything you can from the dash and tape off/mask up what you can not.
If the dash is rough start with 220-240 grit and move to 320 grit befor painting or primer
light coats are better than one heavy coat.
you can look at the new digital gauge clusters from dakota digital, but they are lot's of money.
Sanding...if theres no primer under it and it looks like cheap rattle can stuff done in a rush...I would start with 320..go up to 600 for the finish sanding...use wet/dry paper...it will last plenty long...keep it wet though...undo the battery cable so the water wont short anything..and hang onto the worn out paper are good for finish sanding on small projects like this. I definately would NOT remove the original white paint underneath...it could be red...depends on the original colors...removing the cluster or looking in the small inner edges of the glove box will show the original color...either way, keep the original paint...its a solid as a rock base for covering...removing the switches...not hard at all...when you get to that point, drop me an email as I have that already done as a few on here have asked about that in the past.
