compression ratio

compression ratio

is there a way to figure out my compression ratio while my motor is tore down. im in midst of rebuilding my 400 that has been built before and was wondering if i could figure exactly what they built it to. i know one website was telling me something about measureing the stroke bore and this and that and combustion chamber volume but i dont know how to do any of that can you hel-?

i dont know man. i was reading this one website and it was saying that compression ratio can only be figured by all that stuff and they had formula to figure compression ratio but i cant for the life of me find that dang website again.

well, where did you buy your pistons? can you show me pictures?, what overbore did you need? 30 over? 40? do you have the stock IRON heads? none of this rings a bell?

The compression ratio is generally calculated, not measured.

the pistons i have are 40 over but i have not bought them yet. i just got the motor tore down and thats it. and yeah i just have the stock mcc heads on it. i dont know if they have been shaved or anything liike that though. is there a way to tell if they have or not

naaa shaving wont make much difference, if you use stock type replacement pistons you will have around 8.5-8.7 to 1, you could get some TMIs to raise it to 9.4:1...

well they pistons are .040 over already and it has a aftermarket cam of some sort if that makes a dif. i dont know what the compression rating on the pistons are though. i didnt put them in and dont know what brand they are.
