im starting to look into shocks now that the ole girl has started riding like a boat rather than a truck, i do tow a little bit and even tho im stuck in 2wd for ever with this truck i still like to throw it in the mud and do my best to show some 4x4's how to do it. now what would you fellers recomend for mild to moderate towing and offroading, its not as important as preformace to me but i would like to keep the ride quality somewhat smooth, but as stated i'll take preformance over ride quality anyday
In terms of shocks, performance should be shown through ride quality. Therefor the better performing shock will have a better ride, more control, less rebound, less fade.
I'v become partial to Bilstein, i'v worked with their race shocks, specifically the 7100's and they are awesome. However i have no idea how there consumer grade vehicle specific shocks are.
I also hear that skyjacker hydro's work well on stock trucks with single front shocks.
And dont think your stuck with 2wd, mine used to be 2wd and now its a awesome 4x4 that is super beefed up and almost ready to tackle anything(i gotta finish my front susp. setup then im good to go!)
nah untill i get out of high school im stuck in 2wd cause this is my only truck and my only way to work so i can thave it out of comissionfor too long a day getting the front end done and aligned cost me 150 bucks for missing work. i have looked at some bilstine and they are a bit pricey but i do want to look into the skyjackers
A good shock for the price is the yellow Monroe gas magnum. I have had them before and they work well and last for quite some time.
I like Rancho RSX, but not RS5000.
I can't comment about the Bilstein, except everyone really seems to like them. They aren't cheap though.
so would the monroe shock be able to handle about a 500-1000 lb load ok? i know with that kind of load helper springs would be good.
have any of yall ever used the gabriel load carriers?
The monroe gas magnum should be just fine for doing what you want to do. We had them on our old 85 that did just fine with them in all drving conditions.
