I always take sites like that with a grain of salt. If you look, somebody's got something bad to say about every manufacturer. While I'm sure that there are people who feel that they've been screwed, my expedition hasn't given me any trouble yet (65k miles) and my Ford dealership is relatively respectful (it's still a dealership, though .
If you're looking to buy a truck, I'd suggest getting one that's used. That way, you're not somebody's guinea pig.
Youre one lucky dog. My 98 from 48,000 when i bought it, to 68,000, we had both front brake calipers stick and ruin disks. Too far from home, so she had shop fix it.
Coil went bad, once again too far from home. Shop fixed that.
Rear wiper went out, i replaced that.
CD changer went out, i replaced that.
Tranny went out, shop replace that.
Leather seats are cracked out badly, ill have to replace them.
Heated seats burned out, unable to fix
Ive put almost $3000 in this thing in one year and 20,000 of driving. I really like the expy, but i hope our troubles are behind us. I cant afford to do this every year.
Consumer reports is a great medium for the smart shopper. On the other hand, it can be very damaging to a manufacturer. Ford has sold thousands of Expy's over the years, and I'm sure that some of them have had "Gremlins" that have been described on that website. But I'll bet for every "lemon" or unhappy owner there are a hundred or so owners who couldn't say enough good things about their Expedition, and their local dealership. Any car/truck is a complex machine, and require regular maintenance to keep them healthy. There should be a website, similar to Consumer Reports, that owners can leave testimonials to their beloved Expedition.....................
I agree,
We bought a 99 EB last half of 2002. I've had the bad coil and the EGR bug but we love ours except the mileage... I've been a member for a while but when the site changed I lost something and had to rejoin... But this site has been great and has saved me mucho dollars.......I've always been a C???? person until the Exp. now I want a 3/4 ton 4 door 4x4 short box power stroke diesel......But wife and kid comes first....
I love my baby, too! I bought it used about 8 months ago, and I've put 12k miles on it since then. Since I bought it with 75k miles, I expected to have to put some work in it. Front brakes, a #4 coil, tune-up, fuel filter, and leaky pinion gasket, to the tune of about $800-ish. I consider that a real steal, and I'm WONDERFULLY pleased with my beast!
Plus I think I get great gas mileage -- 17.4 on average, mixed city/hwy. Much better than I anticipated!!
