Trans took a dump this morning

Title says it all, something broke....It was fine most of the day yesterday while towing 10K, then upon acceleration from a stop a serious shutter formed I had to let off and then I could continue driving.

I should of brought it in then, I could of avoided the $100+ tow that I had today. I just barely limped it off the freeway, once I parked it forward gears were totally gone, reverse is all that's left. I had one of the guys working for me come get me and the trailer, called for a tow to the shop and went to work. Work didn't go to well either, we hit an unmarked main line for a huge irrigation system and it flooded our whole site... It was the last hole we were digging.

Sounds like something in the trans. Did you check the fluid to see if it smelled burnt and looked brown? What kind of shop did you send it to?

Geez Jason sorry to hear this! If you decide to put a BTS or whatever in let me know and I can help. I have done it once or twice.

I wish I had the time to do a BTS, but this happened at the worst time I need it fixed quickly. This will be the second time for a new trans I plan on throwing some more heavy duty parts at it. It already had a pretty solid TC in it. I think I will put a transgo kit in there, any other suggestions.

Jason I would give Brian a call just to see if he has any openings. When I called to get mine there had just been a cancellation and it got built within a couple days and sent out!

Fluid smelt bad, but looked good. I brought to the same shop that built the last one so they could pull it and see what happened.

I know what you mean about needing the truck on the road. Thats why I went to BTS before my trans took a dump. I would think hard about a BTS.

Fluid smells bad is bad.

How long ago did they rebuild this one? Just curious how much it is going to cost you because BTS gives free rebuilds

It has been 3.5 yrs and about 75K. I'm thinking of ways of how I can go the BTS route.

Sounds a little weak to me seeing as how people say the stock trans is capable of 100K or a little more before you get ready to replace it.

First thing is to give Brian a call and see what his openings are. he might be able to ship you one. He did that for me in under a month. Obviously, you have to worry about azzholes like me who went there for 1 thing and dragged it into 3 things and probably tied up a trans rebuild.

I hear ya on the weak part, my stock trans went 180K, but most of that was stock and no towing. I tow all the time now and have for the past 5 yrs.

Then it begs the question: How long do you plan to keep the truck?

If you are tossing it soon, get the dirt cheapest rebuild.

A couple years with NO mods, get a Ford reman

You want to drive it into the ground like me, get a BTS because sooner or later, you will break it. They usually break out of warranty. Kinda of a rule. I know that my trans is 3 yrs old and when it breaks, I have to pay for shipping but not for the rebuild. TC is worth $1000. You do the math.
