I"ve searched the forums and can't find anything specific related to the problem I'm having. I recently bought this truck and it has a pretty significant vibration when it shifts in to overdrive at about 45-50 MPH. Then, the vibration goes away when I get up to highway speeds (up over 55MPH). When I slow down and it down shifts, it starts up again and then goes away once it gets below 40MPH. If I turn of the overdrive, it doesn't do it at all. My first thought was the overdrive gear, but it shifts too good, I think. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks.
I think its a u-joint i had this problem on my truck when i test drove it before i bought it and the guy replaced u-joint for free and that fixed the problem
Thanks for the help guys. I was thinking U joints at first, but I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't do it in overdrive. I already did a tune up. The only other thing I need to do that might cause that problem is change the trans filter and fluids. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. This truck sat for about three years and just got put back on the road, so I'm sure there's more that will start going wrong soon.
Sounds a lot like torque converter shudder to me. A complete fluid change and filter will most likely fix it. FYI... it takes about 16-18 quarts of ATF to completely change the transmission fluid in an E4OD.
