550 miles from home, in the smoky mountains, Had trouble with my ex monday. Coasting down the mountain for about 40 min with both Ac's running full blast, dvd, radio, and any other thing on, in neutral (wanted to see how high my mPG would go on the Lye-o-meter..65MPG's) motor was bearly idleing at about 1000 rpms's. To make a long story short... faulty altenator was not charging enough so my battery went dead. Swapped batterys with cousins truck to get us back to our temp place.
Went to Autozone to get altenator. 110 amp Special order came in today.... looks like this.... Gold-Duralast/Alternator | Alternator | 2005 Ford Excursion 4WD 10 Cylinders S 6.8L SFI SOHC | AutoZone.com_
Pulled the one in the truck.
Not the same...
Looked up on autozone computer... the one that looks the same is the one off of a 2005 E-450 with the v-10
Well..... If you buy a part that is supposed to be exact replacement, then it should be exactly that. Are all the wires/connectors the same? Are they sure the wiring order is the same? Are they willing to repair your EX for you if it fries it? Are there no other parts places around?
When you look at the one on the Advance Auto website, they are the same as the autozone website. Can someone with a 2005 v10 limited look at their altenator and tell me how the bottom of it looks. Does it have bolt holes or slots?? see the two links above in my first post. Very easy to tell the difference.
Your wiring may not be able to handle the additional amps the new alternator puts out. I've heard people going with a thicker gauge wire when going up in amps cause they put huge stereo systems or those 7-11 commercial microwave ovens in their vehicle. j/k
I would return them both and get the one that was specified with your Ex.
