I replaced both my batteries approx DEC 2005. What is the life of them expected. I bought autozone duralast gold. Autozone told me it is warranty for 8 years. Yesterday i noticed the truck was hard starting, like battery low etc. I just replaced the alt about 15 months ago, and i haven't had any issues with it. I suspect the batteries are dying. I plan on stopping by autozone to have them put a meter on em to check. Have any one else used these and how long did you get out of them? Thanks Jeff
Get load tested as you said and i would say there shot, 5 years is about it, go get ya! two free ones, if one test ok i would still replace it, do it in pairs always.
clamps are tight, however one of the post does have some white growth around it, I will clean them all off first like you said then go from there.. maybe thats just enough to reduce the charging that is giving me a slower start. thanks jeff
I had a Panasonic battery that came stock in a 1989 Toyota pick up. That thing never did quit working. I owned the truck until 2000 and still running just fine on the original battery. Granted I did have to add distilled water to that thing several times but it was amazing.
However, with the PSD 5 years seems like an appropriate amount of time for a battery to last.
I would be very suprised if you get a brand new battery free, even under warranty. I'd bet that you are going to get a prorated replacement amount based on the age of the batteries and such. And did you keep your original receipt? They may want to see that as well.
Yeah 5 years is about it for batteries these days. I bet it is under a pro-rate right now, either way it'll be a lil less to pay for each one. Costco has the best rated batteries right now according the Consumer Guide. Its up to you where you go for your parts. If you have anymore questions post em' we'll reply and help ya out
Sorry man, it was there for the taking. Couldnt find any info in the Panasonic batteies ( other then a "the only importer of"
Otherwise it looks like theyare trying to get inot hybrids.

Nice to meet you and welcome to FTE!!!
I guess sooner or later someone would say something. Actually, TinyWonder is a fishing lure and it fits my shape as well. I'm a fairly big guy (around at least).
Thanks for the welcome and I love this site. I'm already making a list of the mods that I need to do to get my great truck running even better.
One of the good guys on the this site runs with the name 4inchlovin.. you could imagine what he got with that for a while..Alot of it was self inflicted..Pretty good people on this site.. believe me..
I replaced my OEM's with the Duralast Golds. One of the new ones failed and they replaced both again. After the second replacement, they have been doing fine.
Something I have noticed is the main battery seams to produce more acid vapor around the filler holes than the secondary.
My primary OEM failed initially, so now, periodically, I will swap the two batteries to assure both see the same amount of work so to speak.
I know some folks here will poo-poo this, but you can't argue with the presence of the vapor around the filler holes.
The alternator shows the 14.+ volts during idle and all the connections, etc. appear to be in good shape.
Welcome To FTE and clean up that white powdery stuff and look into some stuff call Nolex, our Moderator Jim Meggawatt00 hooked us up with that stuff and its the best on the market. Coat your electrical connections with it. Home-depot or Lowes in the electrical isle (you'll find it). << like that Rick, lol..
Annually removing your battery cables and cleaning to shiny metal, then using a anti-oxidation grease will make your batteries and starter last longer.
ok the conclusion... I went to AutoZone last night. I just went in and told the guy i wanted 2 new batteries and pro rate them like the warranty says. No problem, he pulls up my name in the system, it shows the 2 gold batteries I bought 4.5 years ago @ 79 bucks each then. So he pro rates the new ones taking off 40 bucks each. And the system used the original price I paid of 79 bucks. So I got 2 new batteries for 88 bucks... sweet I thought. Then I went home and cleaned all the terminals good with baking soda, emery cloth, Put some die electric grease on the terminals and... wow she cranks over like a airplane.. I think I will swap these batteries out every 4 years as a precaution. Hopefully they3 will always use the 79 dollar price.. that was a nice surprise, but the autozone worker said "well, whatever the system says is what i charge you..." perfect.. thanks to the guys here for all your help. Jeff
Now that you have new batteries, you might want to take a voltage reading on each battery while cranking. That will establish a baseline voltage for future testing.
