starting problems
1976 f150 390 with duraspark , i have had this unit for 4 years now we have the same problem. sometimes we turn key and it starts every time, but most of the time it acts like is out of time buy bucking- or pre firing.. have 2 batt / new starter, new cables-----i can drive it for a week and it will start fine , hot cold it makes no diff. drive fine once started-good power timing on ????????? thanks jerry

I would pull the distributor cap off and make sure everything is seated properly and in-tact. Disconnect the distributor connector and measure the resistance between the ORANGE and PURPLE wires coming out of the distributor and report your results.
If this is an ignition problem, hopefully it will be easier to identify since it doesn't appear to be heat-related.
