285's with chains?

285's with chains?
Has anyone with 285's used tire chains and were there any clearance problems? I have read that 295's will fit on a stock truck, but I doubt with chains. The difference in diameter between 285 and 295 BFG T/As is 0.6 inch (32.9 vs 33.5) so the radius is 0.3 and I am guessing that chains would add somewhere between a half to 1 inch in radius. I other words, 285s with chains are probably bigger than 295s and may cause some problems. My buddy wants to put 285s on and has to be able to put chains on due to hunting trips. It would be a bummer to buy the tires and chains and then damage the truck. Any Help? Thanks in advance.

I have not run 285's with chains, put would doubt there would be a clearance issue. I would run "Cable" chains, and not "Chain chains" as they set up a little tighter to the tire. Put them on the rears.
I like the old "chain chains" for durability though.

If you do put them on, just don't make any sharp turns. I have BFG 295s on my '99 F-250, and the only time they even come close is when turning sharp. When I was young, I was required to carry chains in a semi I used to drive. When using them, I used a couple of rubber bungie straps across the outside, to keep them tight. If the chains get loose, they can do a lot of damage real quick! And watch that there's no sharp edges to cut into the tire. The first time I used the bungies, the "S" hooks dug slots into the edge of the sidewalls! Had to bend the "S" hooks closed after that. And those tires cost me $400 each! (12 ply, 24 inch radials. 18 of them!)
But when you need them, there's nothing better than tire chains!
