Backfire through carb.

First would like to thank everyone out there that has given me a hand with this project. F250 1987 edelbrock with manifold. I have gotten the engine to run real well when moving. Had problems with it stalling, discovered that carb wasn't getting enough gas. I'm still however getting miss fires when I initially start up engine and start to accelerate, but goes away once I've run for awhile. Also had strange problem when I replaced Starter solenoid relay, When I attached negative battery terminal starter started to crank engine without key. Went back to old relay haven't had problem. Has anyone heard of this happening? Look forward to reply. Past chevy owner! Thanks

New relay may have been bad out of the box. Put an ohm meter across the two big terminals, should be open circuit, if a direct short then the relay is bad. When replacing that relay it is better to get a Motorcraft one.
Make sure the fuel level in the carb float bowl is set to spec.
